Cauliflower Cacao Protein Smoothie

This is my go to protein smoothie, which I usually have it for breakfast. If you’re looking for fruit free smoothies, cauliflower is an amazing substitute for bananas! They make the smoothie thick and creamy, and you can hardly taste it! I made the switch to cauliflower about a year ago and I haven’t looked back since. There’s something about the morning that my stomach and digestion doesn’t agree with. I found that bananas in the morning upset my stomach and made me really bloated. And if I’m not careful with what I’m eating or if I eat breakfast too early I’ll have a stomach ache, feel nauseous and most likely vomit. Fun stuff! My solution to this so far is to start my morning with a workout, usually a full body weights session or foam rolling on my rest days. And if I’m not having this smoothie for breakfast and actually sitting down for a meal, it’s no earlier than 9am. Occasionally I’ll go out for breakfast, completely ignore all of this and deal with the consequences after.

If you make this smoothie, please let you know if you like it! I know the cauliflower might not be to everyone’s taste so feel free to substitute it with a ripe banana.

Ingredients:
1 serving — 429 kcal, 28g Protein, 17.5g Carbs, 8.6g Fat

250ml Water
22g Frozen Spinach
90g Frozen Cauliflower
1 Serving of Vanilla Protein Powder (Nuzest Clean Lean Protein Smooth Vanilla)
1 tbsp Organic Cacao Powder
1 tsp Maca Powder
1 tsp Nut Butter (I use peanut or almond)
1 tsp Coconut Butter (you can sub with nut butter)

Method:

  1. Blend all the ingredients until smooth!

Notes:

  • I’ll use either cold or hot water depending on the season

  • You don’t have to add the nut butters if you don’t want to

  • You can substitute the cauliflower with a ripe banana if you prefer.
